Forget the Hollywood clichés about Texas: nowadays, Texas is where it’s at. It has the 10th biggest economy of the world, 1 out of 10 children in the US is born in Texas, and the state exerts a strong pull on newcomers who are looking for work, affordable housing and big open spaces. But along with the Texas Boom came controversy: Texas has been on the frontline of all the big debates about immigration, climate change and democracy.

The John Adams is happy to collaborate with Dutch broadcaster NTR to premiere a new four-part documentary series on Texas. Journalist Eelco Bosch van Rosenthal has travelled all over Texas to talk with both Republicans and Democrats about how Texas is changing. Could it become a blue state in the future? How quickly is a city like Houston, with almost 200 different nationalities, changing color? With the Presidential elections only months away, this documentary series gives us a view into the future of the U.S.

On April 2nd we will screen the first episode of the series and will discuss Texas’ changing demographics with Alessandra Narváez-Varela. She is poet, a writer and a teacher of creative writing at University of El Paso who is featured in the second episode of the series.
