ian burumaThe John Adams Institute proudly presented an evening with journalist, writer and academic Ian Buruma. His new book, Their Promised Land: My Grandparents in Love and War, is an account of a love sustained through the terror and separation of two world wars and the thousands of love letters sent in the darkest hours of the century.

According to The New York Times Book Review, it is  “A wholly understanding, moving account of what it meant to be Jewish and English in one of the most troubled times of the last century. Buruma’s voyage into the past is a warning as well as a celebration of lost lives.”

An excerpt from the book in Dutch (Hun Beloofde Land) is available here.
