Joseph O'NeillThis is the first event in our New America Series, sponsored by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Joseph O’Neill was born in Ireland, raised in the Netherlands, educated in England, and lives in New York. His award-winning novel, Netherland, reflects his background, as well as his passion for cricket. Its hero is a Dutchman who immerses himself into New York’s 21st century multiethnic society. Netherland, with its unapologetically philosophical wandering, is one of the most highly praised novels of the past year, and O’Neill himself a one-man link between Dutch and American societies.

Moderator: Julie Phillips, Literature critic at Trouw
