American photojournalist Lynsey Addario wil give a lecture about her work at Pakhuis de Zwijger on February 9. Addario works as a photojournalist for National Geographic, The New York Times and Times Magazine. She won many awards, including a Pulitzer Prize for International Reporting. American Photo Magazine named her earlier this year as one of the five most important photojournalists of the past 25 years.

The reason Lynsey Addario will visit the Netherlands in February is the publication It’s what I do, that will be released here on the 19th of January. The book could be seen as her war memoirs. She describes how it is to work as a female photojournalist in various war zones: from Gaza to Libya (where she was held hostage), and from Afghanistan to Sierra Leone.

Last spring, the book was released in the US. The reviews were very favorable and immediately there was a bidding war between film producers, who wanted to get the rights. Eventually this battle was won by Steven Spielberg, who managed to get Oscar winner Jennifer Lawrence for the main role.
