One of the most talented authors of this generation visited the John Adams Institute to speak about her exuberant and ambitious new novel Swing Time – published in Dutch by Prometheus Publishers. Zadie Smith’s star rose quickly with her debut novel White Teeth, which won multiple awards and proved Smith to be a wondrously talented writer who takes on big themes – faith, race, gender, history, and culture.
She continues to address these themes in Swing Time – a story of two girls who dream of being dancers, spanning over twenty years and two continents. It’s also a tale about friendship and music and stubborn roots, about how we are shaped by these things and how we can survive them.
