Russell Shorto, the previous director of the John Adams Institute and the author of Amsterdam: A History of the World’s Most Liberal City, is giving the 19th Mandeville lecture at the Erasmus University on Thursday June 5th. The title of his lecture is ‘The Advantage of Threat: Water, Commerce and the Dutch’. Every year the Bernard Mandeville Foundation, representing both the academic and the business community of Rotterdam, offers a person who has been of great service to society the opportunity to share his views with the public.
