The New York Times on the year’s best books, as chosen by their three daily book critics. For each there were favorites, and books that stood out from the crowd. Upcoming JAI guest Garth Risk Hallberg and former guest T. C. Boyle made the list. According to literary critic Michiko Kakutani, ‘City On Fire’ by Hallberg: “ is an overstuffed but fleet-footed novel that attests to its young author’s epic ambition and boundless talents”. Boyle’s “The Harder They Come” is “Arguably the most resonant novel in Mr. Boyle’s long career”.
